It’s a fantasy of the Indian heartland, a perfect setting for splashy musical numbers and an appropriate one for a film that itself is fantasy: part sports tale, part nationalist love story, part feminist comedy.Īs a sports movie “Dil” lacks the focus and excitement of “Lagaan” (another cricket flick) or “Chak de India” (about a female field hockey team). In “Dil Bole Hadippa!” (“My Heart Goes Hooray!”), Veera (Rani Mukherjee) becomes Veer to play on her local team, which just happens to represent India in a yearly match against Pakistan.ĭirected by Anurag Singh, “Dil” takes place in a colorful Punjab, with amber waves of grain and sassy local girls who chomp on sugar cane. Slap on a mustache and a beard and go for it, of course.

Upside: Brilliant performance by Shahid Kapoor, Vishal Bharadwajs dark and intense direction, interesting characterizations, good music, good cinematographyĭownside: Too unconventional, stretched second halfĬast: Fardeen Khan, Genelia DSouza, Tushar Kapoor, Prachi Desai, Govindaĭownside: Outdated story, dull humour, silly climax, Genelias screechy performance, Prachi Desai gets into TV soap mode, unending length Indiatimes Rating: ** (Read Review)Ĭast: Shahid Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra, Amol Gupte The extended weekend holiday till Monday (Eid) added to the business. However collections were clearly lower as compared to Wanted.
Trade Comments: The opening was decent with the film mainly catering to the family audiences. Upside: Good performances by Rani and Shahid, emotionally gripping climax, feel good factorĭownside: Several recent Yash Raj film plotlines regurgitated, Yash Raj clichs galore, predictable story Collections were good at both single screens and multiplexes with business being slightly better at the former.Ĭast: Rani Mukherjee, Shahid Kapoor, Anupam Kher Trade Comments: The opening was huge and the business was extremely good with the extended weekend holiday till Monday (Eid). Upside: Salman Khans fresh looks, super-cool attitude, groovy dancing and slick action sequences, dry humour, charming romantic track, decent performances Postponed by a month from its earlier decided date, Fast Forward may find it tough to sail through at the ticket window.Ĭast: Salman Khan, Ayesha Takia, Mahesh Manjrekar, Prakash Raj Both Akshay Kapoor and Rehan Khan lack face value and it would be tough for the film to survive in front of Whats Your Raashee. There is no comparable competition to Whats Your Raashee with the only other release being the small dance flick Fast Forward. With a Dusshera holiday on Monday, business should be good with the extended weekend (exactly like Wanted and Dil Bole Hadippa enjoyed). With Ashutosh Gowarikars track record and Priyanka Chopras Guinness Record breaking 12 character portrayal, the film has tremendous curiosity value. The coming Friday Ashutosh Gowarikar and UTVs romantic comedy Whats Your Raashee arrives in cinema halls. But the question is will it be able to survive beyond the first week? Like Wanted, this one too had a rise in footfalls on Monday due to Eid holiday. While it got a decent opening catering to the family audiences, business is two steps behind Wanted. Other than spirited performances from Rani Mukherjee and Shahid Kapoor, the film had all regular elements of Yash Raj feel-good candyfloss from Punjabs sarso-ke-khet to Indian culture sermons. The other release Dil Bole Hadippa coming from the Yash Raj banner had nothing new. Question: Which was a more entertaining film Wanted or Dil Bole Hadippa? Leave your comments below. With Eid falling on Monday, the film won an added audience. While most films show a slump in the business Monday onwards, it was exactly the opposite in case of Wanted. Much against popular trade belief that Wanted is only a single-screen film, the film did decent business at most multiplexes as well with the audiences in the hall reacting to Salmans antics as wildly as the single-screen junta. At select centers the crowd was so uncontrollable that police had to take charge. The opening on Friday was huge especially at single screens.
